300 Miles to Heaven / 300 mil do nieba Blu-Ray Steelbook - In 1985, the Zielinski brothers, fifteen-year-old Adam and twelve-year-old Krzysztof, made their way to Sweden by hiding under the chassis of a truck. The Polish authorities tried at all costs to bring the boys home. Their parents did not request extradition, believing that the boys should decide their own fate. They were, in effect, stripped of their parental rights. Both boys remained in Sweden. They lived with a foster family until they came of age. They watched the film at the Congress on Human and Citizen's Rights in Strasbourg in 1989. They said of it that it fully reflected their experiences. The film's protagonists Jedrek and Grześ live with their parents and numerous siblings in a barracks, living in very difficult conditions. Their father, a history teacher, was twice dismissed from his job for his political views. The boys decide to fulfil their dreams of a better life and escape to the West.
